Irvine, Calif. – Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott made his third trip to the podium in four races at the AMA National Hare and Hound race in Lucerne Valley, Calif. The round marked the half-way point for the series and Abbott continued to chip away at the points lead, trailing first by only seven points.

Fast Start, Technical End
With a win under his belt at the last round, Abbott was prepared to remain up front in Lucerne. The first loop was a fast 47 miles, while the second loop was a little shorter and more technical. Abbott pushed until the end and when the checkered flag came out, he finished third overall.

“I didn’t seem to get comfortable out there until I pitted early at the 26-mile marker for fuel,” said Abbott. “From then on, I was pushing and closing in on the two riders in front. I caught them with six miles left and moved into the lead. Then I lost the course with about two miles left. I couldn’t believe it. I was still close to them, but clipped a rock when I went into Kendall Norman’s dust and went down. I had a big enough lead over the rest of the pack to finish on the podium.”

Disappointed But Still Happy
“I can’t complain about the long term goal we are trying to accomplish here,” said Abbott. “Obviously a win is better, but we’ll take it. The bike was great and I still feel really good. I almost wish the race was a little longer. Now I just need to keep plugging away and do everything I can to get into the points lead.”
We’re Going to Utah
Although the result wasn’t what he wanted, Abbott’s ride put him into second in points, just seven points behind the leader.
The next race will be the first of two held in Jericho, Utah less than a month away.

“I’m always happy to go to Utah,” said Abbott. “It a great place for the races. I just hope to do well and ride strong.”
