Irvine, Calif. – Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott made his third trip to the podium in four races at the AMA National Hare and Hound race in Lucerne Valley, Calif. The round marked the half-way point for the series and Abbott continued to chip away at the points lead, trailing first by only seven points.
“I didn’t seem to get comfortable out there until I pitted early at the 26-mile marker for fuel,” said Abbott. “From then on, I was pushing and closing in on the two riders in front. I caught them with six miles left and moved into the lead. Then I lost the course with about two miles left. I couldn’t believe it. I was still close to them, but clipped a rock when I went into Kendall Norman’s dust and went down. I had a big enough lead over the rest of the pack to finish on the podium.”
“I’m always happy to go to Utah,” said Abbott. “It a great place for the races. I just hope to do well and ride strong.”
