Justin ImHof Takes Overall at Ventura County Motorcycle Night Race

Johnson Valley, CA – Malcolm Smith Motorsports/KTM rider Justin ImHof won the overall at the Ventura County Motorcycle night race aboard his KTM 250 XC.

The race was designed to be a team race with an A and B loop, each 15 miles in length with one central pit area. Racers would do each loop 4 times for a total of 120 miles. The start was a Le-mans style bomb run in which every team, regardless of skill level, started at the same time. The race kicked off at 8:00pm with a banner drop accompanied by a shot gun blast. Although this was meant to be a two-man team race, ImHof choose the Ironman option and went to work to take the win with just he an his KTM.

ImHof lined up on the far right side of the bomb. At the end of the bomb, after a decent start, he sat in 3rd position. ImHof remained in 3rd place throughout the first loop. At the start of the second loop and after a pit stop to get his helmet light plugged in, he caught the 2nd place rider Nick Burson. “I was able to easily catch and pass Burson because it was my second time on the loop and only his first,” commented ImHof.  Shortly, after the pass ImHof realized he had moved into the lead as the Honda team of Kendall Norman and Johnny Campbell had run into some headlight problems and were no longer running in 1st.

Before the final A and B loop, ImHof returned to the pits for one more splash of gas. “My dad told me that the Honda team was coming fast and I had to push hard. I rode as hard as I could that final loop and came away with the win.” This marked the first overall victory at a desert race for ImHof.

“I can’t put into words how happy I am to get this finish. I couldn’t have done it without my sponsors: Malcolm Smith Motorsports, KTM, Paul Krause Racing, FMF, Stompgrip, ESR Suspension, Bridgestone, Zip-ty, BRP, TGT Bars, DT1 Filters, RK Chains, Excel, ZLT, Scott Stabilizers, Renthal, Scott Goggles, Shoei, Gaerne, Maxima. “

Overall Results:
1) Justin ImHof – KTM
2) Johnny Campbell and Kendall Norman- Honda
3) Ricky Brabec and Andy Vandenburg- Honda
