The off road MC racing community was blindsided today when Team JCR confirmed rumors that Baja 1000 Champion Timmy Weigand suffered a mild stroke last weekend and discovered a serious congenital heart condition requiring immediate surgery. Doctors struggled for several days to determine his diagnosis after he suffered a sudden headache and some loss of vision on Saturday. Weigand, who was heading to San Felipe to defend the 1x plate of Kendall Norman the next day, is one of off road MC racing’s most organic and emergent figures in the field and has risen in the ranks of contention in WORCS and total domination in BAJA.
The loss of Weigand for the 250 is only a minor concern since JCRs stable is budding with talent and know-how in Baja. Weigand himself is remaining optimistic and stoic about his upcoming surgery. On his FACEBOOK page he gave thanks to the immediate outpouring of support and gave the impression he didn’t want fans to worry. His wife Nicole is expecting their second child next week.
