Parker, AZ- “Best In The Desert” Blue Water Grand Prix

With clear skies and moderate temperatures, this was going to turn out to be a
great event in Parker, AZ. Ty Davis and Nick Burson showed up for Zip-Ty
Racing/Husqvarna on their TXC450 ready to show the field how to ride
desert. At the start of the race, they were second off the line. With absolutely
no wind, the dust just hung in the air making visibility a real problem.
“During the first half of the race, you just had to sit back and wait for the
leader to make a mistake as the dust hung in the air and you could not see
past the handlebars” quoted Ty. But luck would fall their way as they were
past the halfway point when the leader made a mistake and went down hard,
giving the lead over to Nick Burson. Nick then pitted and handed the bike
over to Ty who brought the bike in for the win.
WORCS Racing- Milford, CA.
Meanwhile, while Ty and Nick were racing Saturday in Parker, Cory
Graffunder and Bobby Garrison were at Honey Lake MX getting ready for the
first real offroad race of the WORCS Series. Saturday, during qualifying,
Cory Graffunder got a good start rounding the first corner in 3rd place. Cory
held this position until he got passed in one of the more technical sections and
was unable to make up the time and finished in 5th position but qualified into
the Pro2 race on Sunday.
After a long drive Saturday night, Ty Davis arrived and lined up for the 40A
Class. With not being able to ride the course, Ty was at a big disadvantage.
He got a great start on his Husqvarna TC450, running third out of the first
corner. But before the lap was over, Ty moved his way into 1st place and
started to stretch out the lead. By the end of the race, Ty had a minute plus
lead over second place and took an easy victory. “This is great, two wins in
two days, you can’t ask for much better than that. It was a good track and I
had a fun time out there.” quoted Ty.
So now it is Bobby Garrison and Cory Graffunder getting ready for the Pro
and Pro2 Race. At the start of the race, Bobby Garrison got a good jump off
the gate but got pinched off up towards the first corner and rounded the first
corner in 16th position. But as they made the first lap, Bobby had moved
himself up into the 11th position and was moving forward. As the race settled
in, Bobby kept his lap times consistent and as the other riders started to fade,
Bobby kept moving forward on his Husqvarna TC450. He was able to get by
Chris Johnson for 10th and next in his sights was John Dowd who was 50
seconds ahead of him. Within 2 laps he was able to catch Dowd and make the
pass for 9th, where he would finish the race. “I was able to see Dowd in front
of me but he was pretty far up there, so I just put my head down and kept
pushing and then all of a sudden there he was and I made the pass.” quoted
Bobby.
In the Pro 2 class, it was a whole different story. Cory Graffunder got a great
start on his Zip-Ty Racing/Husqvarna TXC450 and rounded the first corner in
third place. Cory pushed hard in the beginning and made the pass into second
and now set his sights on the leader. At about the half way point, Cory got his
opportunity as he kept the pressure on the leader Corey Floyd and a small
mistake by Floyd allowed Cory to take over the first place position. “With a
large gas tank, I knew I could run longer than anyone on fuel so I tried to
stretch it as far as I could, pitting around 1hour 20 minutes. I was able to
stretch my lead out and not have to worry about loosing it in the pits, which
worked out” quoted Cory. From this point on Cory stretched his lead to over
1 minute and took the overall win.
